Stewardship

Doing the right thing is the framework for our operational foundation. Through our business practices we are committing to driving positive change for people and the planet.

Annual Stewardship Report

"In sharing the appeal of the mountain life with all, we feel the responsibility of protecting it. In 2023, we continued our commitment in expanding our preferred materials program to 57% total adoption.
We grew our circular commerce program, Stio Second Turn®, with nearly 3,000 units processed in the past year alone through our partnerships with Tersus and Geartrade.
Furthermore, we were able to give back directly to our community by providing apparel to multiple youth programs, adaptive sports organizations, avalanche safety groups, and search and rescue teams."

Preferred Materials

At Stio, we are committed to building garments that are durable, timeless and continue to perform season after season. We carefully consider the impact of our material choices as we strive to deliver the best. After all, the most sustainable products are those that we keep in our closets and out of the landfill.

In 2023, we updated our Pinion Down program to recycled nylon, and updated our CFS program to recycled polyester. Our total preferred material adoption increased from 48% to 57%, and reduced the total amount of conventional materials purchased. With a pipeline of new materials slated for 2024, we continue charging toward our goal of 75% preferred material usage by 2025.

We verify that, to the best of our knowledge, the products manufactured by Stio and under the name Stio, materially comply with California Proposition 65.

Committed To Removing PFAS

Stio is committed to removing PFAS, also known as per- and polyfluorinated chemicals or “forever chemicals,” from its line of technical apparel, footwear and accessories. With the launch of Stio’s Fall/Winter 2023-24 Collection, we are already making progress towards our goal with more than half of the current line made without the use of PFAS. Stio plans to completely transition away from using the chemicals by the launch of the next winter season in 2024-25. October 2023 Press Release

Stio Second Turn®

We believe in the long-term goal of building a virtuous commerce cycle where products are maintained, cleaned, repaired and reused for as long as possible, before a final deconstruction to component ingredients for repurpose into other products.

In 2023 we pushed through the systematic complexities Stio Second Turn® faced to find creative solutions that better served our consumers. These included a more streamlined trade-in process and more pop-up offerings at our Mountain Studio locations. As a result, the brand proudly processed nearly 3,000 garments. Moving forward, we're excited to reach a broader audience and increase the program's overall impact.

We’re proud to partner with two leading firms in this work—Tersus, our cleaning and repairs partner, and Geartrade, our “extended product life” partner for products that may have previously ended up in a landfill. These firms share a similar perspective on the outdoor industry and the role it can play in reshaping our supply chains and product lifecycles for the better.

Outside Is For Everyone

We think that outside is the best side and that you can’t improve on nature. It’s good for the mind, body and soul, and it’s our responsibility to help enable access for all people, regardless of race, gender, beliefs, background or ability. We strive for inclusion at Stio, as well as locally and nationally.

We believe change starts in our own community first, which is why we have partnered with Coombs Outdoors, a non-profit in our home of Jackson, Wyoming that provides outdoor recreational programming to children of families who do not have access to the same opportunities as their peers. Through our partnership, we provide apparel for 400+ participants and strengthen our community through mentoring, internship programs and storytelling.
